On April 10, 1996, I made the decision to end my life.
I was 23 years old, drowning in a sea of darkness, feeling like my dreams weren’t just buried—they were dead. Months of numbing my pain with pills and alcohol left me lost, alone, and utterly hopeless. I had no idea what the purpose of my life was, or if there even was one.
I picked up two razor blades, one for each wrist, and wrote my goodbye note. Before going through with it, I called a friend. She didn’t try to fix it or give me a pep talk. She just asked, “Can you give me one more day?” Something about the simplicity of that question made me pause, and I agreed. Just one more day. Besides, I could just go through with it tomorrow. And that’s when everything changed…
On April 11, 1996, I woke up.
Really woke up. It was as if the darkness that had clouded my life had lifted, and for the first time, I saw color. The world around me wasn’t a shadow anymore—it was alive. It was like I could hear the wind whispering through every leaf, and everything around me seemed to pulse with vibrant color. For the first time, I took a breath that wasn’t weighed down—it felt light, filled with hope. It felt like possibility.
I believe something much bigger than me stepped in that day. And it planted a seed. A purpose. A calling.
That purpose wasn’t clear to me right away, but it grew stronger with each passing year. I started to see that my life wasn’t meant to end—it was meant to help others see what they couldn’t. I found myself drawn to people who felt stuck, lost, overwhelmed, burned out, or disconnected from who they wanted to become. Some were struggling in their personal lives. Others were navigating challenges in their careers, leadership roles, relationships, or sense of purpose. My calling was to illuminate the dark corners where insecurities, doubts, and fears keep people anchored, and help them cut those anchors loose so they can move toward the life they were meant to live.
I threw myself into every opportunity to learn, grow, and serve. I sat with people experiencing homelessness, incarceration, addiction, loss, and circumstances that seemed impossible to overcome. I listened to their stories, offered hope, and learned from them too.
Those experiences shaped me as a leader, communicator, and mentor—and reinforced what I had begun to discover: people are often capable of far more than they realize when equipped with tools that help them see beyond fear, doubt, and limitation.
After becoming a Leadership Coaching Specialist (LCS), that lesson became even clearer.
As the years passed, I found myself leading organizations, serving on boards, developing teams, mentoring emerging leaders, and speaking to audiences about communication, resilience, emotional intelligence, and personal growth.
Working with executives, managers, entrepreneurs, educators, and business teams gave me a front-row seat to the challenges people face when they're trying to lead others while still figuring out how to lead themselves. That's when I discovered something that would eventually shape my entire philosophy.
The leadership tools I was teaching in organizations weren't just leadership tools. They were life tools.
Today, my mission is to help people—from executives and emerging leaders to entrepreneurs, educators, professionals in transition, and everyday dreamers—develop the awareness, confidence, resilience, and courage to build lives and careers they're proud of.
Because I don't believe your dreams are running from you. I believe they're waiting beneath layers of doubt, insecurity, fear, and old stories that no longer serve you.
And that's why Rescue Your Dreams® exists.
Whether you're looking to strengthen your leadership, grow your career, improve your relationships, or create a more meaningful life, I'm here to help you build the tools to get there.
